Project Manager
Description
PM1: Licensed architect or non-registered graduate with at least 3 years of post-graduate experience and familiarity with the firm’s project typology. Manages one project with supervision provided by a more experienced PM2, Senior Project Manager or Principal. Depending on the size of the project a PM1 may have responsibility to direct a Project Designer as part of the production team.
PM2: Licensed architect or non-registered graduate with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience and familiarity with the firm’s project typology. Responsible for the full management of one or more projects. The management effort is guided by a Senior Project Manager or Principal. Typically, a PM2 is responsible for directing one or more Project Designers as part of the production team.
Your Impact
The Project Manager position holds the responsibility for ensuring their assigned project(s) are run effectively. As the project lead the Project Manager is responsible for facilitating the project design process, monitoring the work effort and fee, and maintaining overall quality control of the product, documents and provided service.
Responsibilities
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Project Planning: Work with the project Principal to develop and document project sequence and specific milestone dates; assist in preparation of fee and construction cost estimates; review of all regulatory applications, processes, codes and development of strategies for compliance.
- Design Development: Organize the effort to advance the design and documentation, including product research, consultant coordination and production management. For larger and more complex projects, a PM1 may be assigned to the team to assist with production management and consultant coordination.
- Communications: Primary point of contact for all aspects of the project including the external client, consultant, and regulatory communications, and internal project team communications. Organize and facilitate all client meetings. Attend construction site meetings. Direct and proof all meeting minutes and field reports prepared by the Project Designer.
- Quality Assurance and Project Performance: Meet with the firm’s financial consultants monthly to review project financials and schedule. Attend weekly staffing meetings. Coordinate, prepare for, and participate in periodic drawing set reviews with the project Principal or Senior Project Managers.
INTERNAL FIRM MANAGEMENT
- Mentor and encourage development the firm’s 4-skills (management, design, communication, technical) with Designers, Interns, and other junior staff.
- Assist the Principals and firm management team to maintain and develop project standards.
Qualifications
- First professional degree: B.Arch or M.Arch.responsibility for general project progress and team leadership.
- (PM1) 3 or more years’ experience, (PM2) 5 or more years’ experience with at least 2 years working as a Project Architect or in a similar position with primary responsibility for general project progress and team leadership.
- Licensed in New York State (not required, but preferred).
- (PM2) Ability to manage more than one project through delegation
- Solid understanding of the components and sequencing of the project design process and contract management process.
- Ability to communicate clearly, consistently, and frequently with the project team, project principal and client.
- Organized; schedule and process oriented.
- Working knowledge of Vectorworks (or other similar CAD program), Microsoft Office, Adobe.
This position is in-person, with some flexibility for remote work. The Brooklyn Studio offers a comprehensive benefits package including subsidized health insurance, matched retirement program, commuter benefits, and paid time off. Annual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, in the range of $80,000-$90,000.

Project Designer
Description
Project Designer is an entry-level position with a broad range of duties depending upon the level of experience. It is a training position for unlicensed architectural school graduates, intent on developing the skills necessary to adequately perform the job of a Project Architect. The basic requirements of the position involve performing various production oriented and project administrative tasks. A Project Designer may be working toward licensure.
A Project Designer will primarily work under the supervision of a Project Architect but may also work directly with a Project Manager or Principal depending on the size of the project. Designers may also work on a variety of project types and for different Project Architects or Project Managers.
A Project Designer 2 begins the transition to Project Architect / Project Manager. They will perform some of the project administrative tasks at the direction of the Project Architect, but not be responsible for managing the project progress.
Responsibilities Project Desiger 1
- Working under the direction of a Project Architect or Project Manager, execute general production and project administrative tasks. Primarily this will involve the preparation of working documents.
- Attend project team, client, and site meetings as necessary.
- Assist the Project Architect or Project Manager to maintain project files, specifically CAD files.
- Prepare presentation drawings, models as appropriate.
- Preparation of schematic design drawings, models, and renderings, working drawings and specifications.
- Assist with project coordination.
- Take initiative to learn new skills and gain exposure to all aspects of project work.
- Familiarize self with and adhere to The Brooklyn Studio project standards.
Responsibilities Project Desiger 2
- All of the responsibilities listed for PD1 role.
- Manage a team on a project survey.
- Direct communications and coordination with client, consultant, and/or contractor, under the direction of a Project Architect or Project Manager.
- Attendance, with primary communication role, at project site meetings during construction.
Qualifications
- First professional degree — B.Arch or M.Arch (recommended but not required).
- Any work experience a plus, including construction experience.
- General ability to draw and visualize in 3-dimensions.
- Working knowledge of Photoshop, Vectorworks (CAD), Microsoft Office and Internet.
- Ability to draw by hand, render or make models is a plus.
- Demonstrated desire to continue professional development and learn new skills necessary to project advancement.
- General ability to show good judgment, common sense, readily ask questions, execute work quickly, listen, and take direction.
This position is in-person, with some flexibility for remote work. The Brooklyn Studio offers a comprehensive benefits package including subsidized health insurance, matched retirement program, commuter benefits, and paid time off. Annual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, in the range of $60,000-$70,000.
